Traditional Circle of Elders The alcoholic is like a tornado roaring his way through the lives
of others. Hearts are broken. Sweet relationships are dead. Affections
have been uprooted. Selfish and inconsiderate habits have kept the home in
turmoil. We feel that a man is unthinking when he says that sobriety is
enough. Big Book pg. 82 Almost none of us liked the self-searching, the leveling of our
pride, the confession of shortcomings which the Steps require. But we saw
that the program really worked in others, and we had come to believe in
the hopelessness of life as we had been living
it. When, therefore, we were approached by those in whom the problem
had been solved, there was nothing left for us but to pick up the simple
